We have been able to directly benefit our students and our staff, assisting them in reaching their academic goals, and thereby impacting our community.
We are excited to be able to do Field Trips again this year, provide funds for teachers for classroom supplies, provide planners for each student and host fun events for families this year.

Did you know that HWES had the highest attendance rate in HCPS during the 25-26 school year? 96.6% of students were not considered chronically absent. Chronically absent is defined by MSDE as missing more than 10% of the year.
September is Attendance Awareness Month and we are participating in the #MarylandShowsUp initiative. Attendance matters! Set strong habits for showing up early. Be on the lookout for some new attendance incentives at HWES. Wildcats Show Up!

Do you have a new Wildcat coming to Pre-K or Kindergarten this year? Students in those classes will participate in a gradual entrance. Take note their first day is different. Parents must attend gradual entrance and stay for the duration. You will attend only one of the four possible sessions. Be on the lookout this week for your gradual entrance day and time.

Congratulations to Mr. Saro on receiving a Perfect Attendance award. He volunteered his time in the cafeteria every school day this year. He also spent his time helping in the Media Center. We are so lucky to have him.

On Saturday, May 30th, students from five HCPS elementary schools participated in the Black-Eyed Susan Science Olympiad, Division A, Tournament at John Carroll School in Bel Air. A total of twelve teams competed in this engaging and academically rigorous event for students in grades 3-6.
Science Olympiads is a nationwide competition comprised of 23 events that include earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering. Each team may consist of up to 20 members, with students typically participating in two to three events each. The competition includes three types of events; test completion, hands-on events, and station events. Teams earn points based on their performance in each event, with overall rankings determined by the cumulative score.
For the last several months, teams have been studying science content for each of the disciplines and developing their engineering skills to compete in hands-on events. They have improved teamwork, problem solving, and science knowledge on topics such as engineering, food science, meteorology, map reading, herpetology, ecology, and rocks and minerals.
HWES won first place overall!
Students finished 1st place in:
Circuits, Code Busters, Dynamic Planet, Ecosystems, Map Reading, Owl Pellets, Pentathlon, Rocks and Minerals, and Write it/Do it.
Students finished 2nd place in:
Anatomy, 3rd grade Fast Facts, Food Science, Herpetology, Meteorology, Roller Coasters, and Tech Triathlon.
Students finished 3rd place in:
Crime Busters and Solar System
Way to go Wildcats!
